Fogged-Up Visor: 5 Solutions That Really Work
Aktie
Few things are as dangerous as losing your vision because of a fogged-up visor, especially on a rainy day. If this is a recurring problem for you, here are five solutions that really work — starting with the most effective.
1. Fit anti-fog (the definitive solution)
This is by far the most effective solution. An anti-fog lens creates an insulating air chamber on the inner face of the visor and eliminates condensation permanently, even when stopping and starting in traffic. It fits in seconds and solves the problem for good. If your helmet is compatible, this is where you should start.
2. Open the visor slightly
When stopped or at low speed, leaving the visor open at the first click position allows air to circulate and reduces fogging. It's a stopgap: it works instantly, but it lets in rain and noise and doesn't fix the underlying problem.
3. Use the helmet's vents
Many people ride with the vents closed without realising it. Open the front and chin vents: they help refresh the air inside the helmet and reduce the moisture that causes fogging.
4. Apply an anti-fog liquid
There are liquid treatments you apply to the inner face of the visor that create a film which delays condensation. They last a few rides and are a decent extra help, but they don't match the effectiveness or lifespan of a dedicated anti-fog lens.
5. Check the fit of the helmet and chin curtain
A helmet with a poorly fitted chin curtain lets warm breath rise straight to the visor. Make sure the liner and curtain are properly in place — sometimes a small adjustment makes a big difference.
In summary
Solutions 2 to 5 help, but they're stopgaps. If you ride all year round, the investment that solves the problem for good is anti-fog. Check compatibility with your model and, if you have any questions, get in touch.
